Sources of Birthstones
Astrologers believe the gems and birthstones can be available on earth only by five
sources, such as, (1) Divine, (2) Organic, (3) Metamorphic, (4) Sedimentary, and (5)
through chemical processes.
The Divine Birthstones: these birthstones are available out of some ascetic's
austere penance acquired from the divine power. We hear about many divine gems
in Mahabharat and mythological books, such as swamantak mani, kousthubh mani
etc. It is believed that during the influence of the constellation called Swati -- governed
by the Rahu - if the raindrops fall upon the oyster-shells, they turn into pearls after
some time. The showering raindrops get dry often in air and become another kind of
pearls called chintamani pearls. Varahamihira believed that there are some divine
gems or which drop from the sky like the hails, but the dames in the heaven take all
of them away before they actually land on earth
The Organic Birthstones: These are created within the body of the living creatures,
such as in the body of coral, oysters, conches, fishes, snake’s hood in the projection
of elephants' forehead, in boar's teeth.
The Number of gems: In ancient times the diamonds, rubies, pearls, blue sapphires,
emeralds were considered as the Pancharatna, that is a five gem combination,
considered to be highly auspicious.

are the imitation and which are the original gems. Even the experienced tested become indecisive when they come across the gems of both types. Indeed these are not just
