the Indraloka -the Heaven -- the king of the underworld demons, Wali. He wanted to
conquer the Heaven and win over all the Gods. There he was accosted by the
commander-in-chief for the gods, Indra, who was masquerading as an innocent
Brahmin seeking to find an animal for propitiation. Indra pleaded with him to become
the animal for the sacrifice, as he was not getting any that day, which meant his
yagna was destined to go fruitless. Wali accepted the plea playfully knowing fully well
that his body was invincible. However, Indra knew that naturally very well, hence he
did not strike the head. The demon-king was shattered into pieces of gems, all

Some astrologers considered that the gods approached the ancient righteous
Atharveda sage Dadhichi when they were threatened of their existence by the
demons. On their appeal as laid down by Lord Indra, The self-negating saint, decided
to forsake his over life so that the gods could make use of his bones -- considered to
be the most powerful in three worlds owing to their austerely harnessed virtuosity.
That is exactly what had convinced people in the ancient times, that the bones of
Dadhichi were the sources of the powerful gems and jewels for the gods, and later
fro the human.
However the scientific minded people always considered the earth being the real
source of all gems and jewels that today humans use.
